“We recognized that we needed to go beyond preservation into what we’ve been calling ‘heritage renovation,’” said Dirk Denison, architecture professor and design principal for the project.

“We’re teaching you these concepts, but you don’t see the connection between the concepts and how it’s going to play out in the world,” said Lance Fortnow, dean of the College of Computing to NPR's Marketplace. “This idea of bringing companies in early … then as you’re learning, you can see, ‘Oh, I see how maybe I can apply this idea to what the company is doing.'”

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that people think that they’re not a target for hackers or malicious actors,” said Calvin Nobles, chair of the Department of Information Technology and Management. “All of us are connected today 24/7, so we have to understand that ... we are vulnerable.”

�㽶��ý’s Master of Engineering in Architectural Engineering and Master of High Performance Buildings programs earned the designation for their emphasis on sustainable design and energy efficiency.

“Everyone knows what it means to be depressed or (have) anxiety, but the fundamental thing about stigma is difference,” said Patrick Corrigan, �㽶��ý professor of psychology. “While one may get depressed occasionally or a bit euphoric once in a while, most people don't know what it's like to be in the throes of a manic episode.”

In Cultural Infrastructure: Prototyping Interventions for the Future Bronzeville Trail, �㽶��ý students across STEM disciplines explore the neighborhood culture and use what they learn to evaluate the trail’s sustainability, after which they’ll publish their findings and recommendations. The Bronzeville Trail Task Force met with 24 students at the beginning of the semester.

Researchers at the Institute of Food Safety and Health, a team-up between �㽶��ý and the US Food and Drug Administration, looked at the levels of magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium in almond, cashew, coconut, hemp, oat, pea, rice, and soy milks. They found that only pea and soy milk had higher levels of magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium than cow's milk. Pea milk had the highest, with 50 percent more phosphorus, zinc, and selenium, but soy milk did contain greater levels of magnesium.
