Join the Department of Social Sciences for this Great Problems, Great Minds seminar series event featuring guest speaker John Shimkus, a Member of the United States House of Representatives for the 15th District of Ï㽶´«Ã½.

Nuclear waste has no final disposition solution in the United States, even though Yucca Mountain, the proposed site of a deep geological nuclear waste storage facility in Nevada, is the law of the land. Rep. Shimkus will discuss the prospects of developing a solution to this issue.

Among Shimkus's duties in Congress, he is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Republican Leader of its Environment & Climate Change Subcommittee. He also serves on the Health and Communications & Technology Subcommittees; the NG9-1-1, Recycling, Coal, Steel, and Baltic Caucuses; and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and Smithsonian Institution Board of Regents.
